Shipping parcels from China to the Netherlands: timelines and tracking

A parcel’s delivery time depends on the specific shipping product, route and customs handling. Start with the seller’s promised service and the actual carrier’s tracking page through our parcel tracking directory.

Different services have different planning horizons

Broad examples used for planning are 3–7 working days for international express, about 7–20 days for some e-commerce lines, 15–35 days for some international postal products, and 30–60 days for sea or rail services. These are illustrative ranges, not measured live performance or carrier guarantees. Products within each category differ substantially.

Before choosing a service, confirm whether the quoted time includes collection, customs clearance and final delivery. Ask about tracking coverage, item restrictions and what happens if documentation is missing. Holidays, peak shopping periods, weather and inspections can change the outcome.

Follow the shipment stages

A typical journey includes collection in China, export sorting, international transport, import clearance and local delivery in the Netherlands. A transit hub may be in another country, so an intermediate scan does not necessarily identify the final delivery carrier.

A long gap in scans does not by itself prove loss. Customs processing or a handover can take time. If the promised delivery window has passed, a document request arrives or tracking shows an exception, contact the seller or carrier promptly rather than waiting an arbitrary extra week.

Find the correct tracking number

Use the number supplied by the seller first. If a parcel receives a different local delivery number, ask for that number and the final carrier’s name. PostNL may also require the recipient’s postcode.
