Check Mijn Inburgering or contact DUO to confirm the applicable act and whether you have an integration obligation. Arrival date alone is not sufficient.
Wet inburgering 2013 applies
Follow the exams and deadline in Mijn Inburgering. Language exams are generally A2 or above; do not automatically apply the three 2021 Act routes.
Wet inburgering 2021 applies; no PIP yet
Attend the municipal brede intake and learning potential test. Your municipality works with you on a PIP setting out the official route and requirements.
My PIP specifies B1-route
Follow your PIP. After at least 600 hours of language lessons, if B1 remains unattainable, discuss a possible reduction to A2 with the municipality. This is not automatic.
My PIP specifies Onderwijsroute
Follow your PIP for education preparation and B1/B2 language learning. Wanting to study does not itself qualify you for this route.
My PIP specifies Z-route
Complete the language and participation requirements in your PIP and a final municipal interview. A2 language exams are optional; PVT and MAP obligations still apply.
Only exploring naturalisation or long-term residence requirements
Naturalisation, long-term residence and the integration obligation are separate matters. Check IND requirements and accepted evidence or exemptions for your application. This tool does not determine eligibility.
Check naturalisation separately
IND currently specifies at least A2 for naturalisation, alongside the relevant examination, evidence or exemption requirements. Completing Z-route alone does not satisfy the integration requirement for naturalisation.
